“I just spoke with Peter, a local neighborhood advocate, who was waiting for the 27 bus to take him back to his home in Diamond Heights. Oh, there's some cars right there expressing their love of transit, and Peter let me know that after a year and a half of advocacy, he got a flasher pedestrian crosswalk installed up in Diamond Heights, which is very windy and thoroughfare type area, and he said it took a year and a half of advocacy to get that installed, and that cars still don't really slow down or notice the flashing, so I said we're going to keep working on it together, and he said, all right, I'm glad.”

**Peter was able to get a flasher crosswalk in his neighborhood**
“My name is Shannon Cairns, and my father, Donald Cairns, was hit by a driver in San Francisco at Fulton and Laguna, I think it was while my dad was walking to go shopping at Trader Joe's, and he was crossing with the light, and he was 89 years old, and he was hit by the driver, and he ended up with a fractured tibia and had to, luckily he didn't require surgery, but had to recuperate by being not bearing any weight for a long time, so it was hard for anyone, but particularly an 89 year old person, and so he's super fortunate, and we all are that he has recovered, but he's, you know not the same.”

“In 2000, when I was a student at Berkeley, I was crossing the street when a black Mustang came down the hill. It went past the stop sign, and then continued towards me. Eventually, it hit me, sending me onto this hood. I rolled off, landed on my head, and the Mustang quickly slammed, accelerated on the gas pedal, and raced off. Fortunately, there were almost six separate people walking in the area who saw me and ran to my aid. I woke up hours later in the hospital… All I knew is I was really thirsty. The irony was that I had a major, major knee surgery to repair my knee from a skiing accident, and I was wearing a large metal brace on my leg, and it was by chance that the Mustang's front bumper hit that hit that brace, which sent me onto the windshield, but basically, in a sense, saved my life.”

“My name is Aureen and in 2006 I was getting off a bus on Market Street and on 6th and I was looking one way and I didn't realize there was one more lane that was the opposite direction. I was disoriented because I was like coming from the East Bay so it's not usually the case that the divider is like one direction, both sides. So there was still one lane that was going the other way. So I was looking the wrong, I didn't look both ways and I got hit by a car. And many times I've been living in San Francisco for a long time. So many times I almost get hit by a car.”
