Curriculum Vitae

Laurus Myth is an artist, arts advocate, and naturalist. A Bay Area native of Chinese and Irish descent, her work centers around the re-building of a culture of gifting. Her modular, mobile, wooden sculptures are simultaneously ritualistic, playful and interactive. Addressing themes of nature, youth, laughter, and memory, these active sculptures tend to pop up at unexpected venues and public platforms and have been installed at SubZERO market, pedestrian crosswalks in the SoMA district, and Pier 70. She has also been granted five city-funded mural commissions in the Silicon Valley.

Laurus has served on the Board of Directors at the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center for three years and was the Artist-In-Residence founder and manager at TechShop, San Francisco, and San Jose. Since its inception in 2014, the AIR program hosted over 50 artists and makers, bringing exposure to emerging and professional working artists in the SF Bay Area. Currently, she teaches for A Living Library, a San Francisco non-profit focused on educating middle school students about natural systems and sustaining life through gardening.

Artist Statement:

Interactive art can instigate connection by inviting participation and encouraging moments of engagement. My desire is to embrace the connections we share, from our youth, such as laughter, dreams, and memories. The union of opposites, awareness of nature and landscape, and the exploratory process of the art experience, are themes in my practice.
